NZ Life & Leisure Magazine Dec 2017 Issue 76
High Street to the Hills.
BY NATURE 23 December to 11 January, Artbay Gallery, Queenstown.
Interpreting nature and the cultural identity of Aotearoa are centre stage in a joint exhibition by Waikato-based artist Annemieke Farmilo who works in pounamu, glass and found objects, and Ōpōtiki-based artist Fiona Kerr Gedson who uses feathers as her medium. Using organically sourced materials is a fundamental principle for both Netherlands-born Farmilo and for Kerr Gedson, who grew up alongside Tūhoe in Tāneatua and Ruātoki. The exhibition includes two-dimensional sculptures and framed works in feathers centred in the Buddhist meditative mandala motif of inner stillness. artbay.co.nz
