By Nature at Artbay Gallery
Prominent New Zealand based artists Fiona Kerr Gedson and Annemeike Farmillo are showcasing their nature inspired artworks together in Queenstown this holiday season (21st December 2017 – 11th January 2018).
The exhibition, entitled ‘By Nature’ will be held at Artbay Gallery’s new Exclusive Exhibitions space overlooking Lake Wakatipu. The location couldn’t be better for an exhibition which has been inspired by – and created with – raw New Zealand nature.
Both Fiona Kerr Gedson and Annemeike Farmillo are well-known for their striking and uniquely New Zealand styles which utilise raw, natural materials.
Fiona Kerr Gedson is a multi-award-winning and internationally recognised artist based in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, within the boundaries of the Whakatōhea Iwi. She is perhaps best known for her Mandalas created from the feathers of pest and game birds, predominantly pheasant, peacock and turkey. The form has its origins in ancient Buddhism, but Fiona’s background in the art of Maori weaving techniques brings a New Zealand twist to the designs.
Annemeike Farmillo works from her studio overlooking Lake Karapiro, creating New Zealand’s vast landscapes and natural structures from precious South Island Pounamu (nephrite jade) and hand cut glass. Her artworks are framed in specially designed, black or white timber frames that give space and form to her work, balancing her scenes to perfection. Her work has been acquired by collectors around the world and featured in exhibitions internationally.
“The Pounamu itself creates realistic pictures of valleys with water falls, rugged bluffs and forests filled with birdsong,” says Annemeike.
The exhibition will appeal to those with an interest in nature and contemporary New Zealand art. Entry is free and all of the artworks exhibited will be available for purchase.
